The Schalkofen – Humbach – St.Leonhard / Dietramszell Trail is one of the nicest trails nearest to Munich with a lovely view to the Bavarian Alps.

Getting there:

Parking lot: +47° 53′ 52.08″, +11° 32′ 21.54″ Coming from the A9, direction Salzburg, take the exit at Sauerlach / Dietramszell. Follow the road signs till you reach Schalkofen. The signs and directions to the parking lot for cross country skiers are signposted. There are 2 xc-trails starting from there. Take the one which heads up the hill – to Humbach. There are also possibilities to start off the xc-trail at Dietramszell/St. Leonhard, or at Humbach. Parking lots are available and leads you immediately to the trail.

XC-Trail Description:

When they said that this is one of the loveliest track in the region, they were damn right. It was! If it was not for this blasting east wind mixed with a chilly fog that actually deep freezed my lungs at minus 6°c. The first part of this track takes you first over the hilly fields before you arrive at a left turn and enjoy a full view to the castle of Hartmating. From there, you pass through the short course ascending through the woods, and keep ascending till you reach a welcomed downhill. Another ascending part takes you to the peak of this track, before you head downhill until the meeting junction to the Dietramszell / Humback xc-trail. Take a right turn. This brings you to the parking lot from Humbach with a beautiful view to the Chapel. From there the track gets much easier leading you through the snowy romantic forest that almost takes forever to end. But once it does, you’re just 500m to the junction where you should take to return back to Schalkofen.

Trail fee: A fee can be made at the parking lot in Schalkofen, Humbach, St.Leonhardt / Dietramszell for upkeeping and maintenance of the track by the ski club Moosham.
